When starting off the new year in recovery, it’s vital to have an optimistic attitude and set forth some positive goals. While having a positive outlook for the future ahead is key, its also important to consider what we can do in order to stay strong and motivated.

GET INSPIRED
In recovery, the most important thing that we can do to ensure success is to keep the right attitude. Our overall mental outlook plays a key role in determining how we can stay strong through recovery. One way we are able to keep our spirits up is by finding inspiration whether it be through positive people, reading, creating art or developing other hobbies. Reading self-help books can be an excellent way to maintain an optimistic outlook and find inspiration from others who may have used their struggles to grow stronger.

KEEPING UP WITH HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Staying mentally and physically strong during the recovery period means taking care of our health. Practicing good eating and sleeping habits is essential in keeping us healthy and in good spirits. Starting an exercise routine whether it be joining a gym, running, swimming, doing yoga, playing a sport or outdoor activities can be very beneficial for in keeping us motivated and energized. Taking care of our physical health keeps our bodies feeling strong as well as building up endurance and confidence.

STAYING MINDFUL
In addition to keeping up with our physical health, it is important to take care of our mind. Changing our perspective and opting to look at things in a different light can be incredibly powerful. For those of us who have struggled with addiction, we realize how powerful that addiction can become.

In practicing mindfulness and meditation, we are able to really change our thinking patterns and develop a different perspective on ourselves and our lives. Being mindful means being fully present in everything we are doing and finding a new appreciation for each of the little aspects of our lives. This practice allows us to slow down and take things day by day as we work towards a brighter future.

When considering our new year’s resolutions to ensure a strong recovery, take time to focus on both mental and physical health. Through finding inspiration from others, new hobbies and interests, practicing mindfulness, and keeping up with healthy lifestyle habits, we can reach our goals and stay strong during recovery.
